THE REHEARSAL S1E6 PRETEND DADDY ๐Ÿคฉ

I’ve never seen any show, movies, YouTube video, TikTok, Vine, Instagram story, or other video media that comes close to THE REHEARSAL. The closest would be Nathan Fielder’s other work – cementing the fact that Fielder is doing something truly groundbreaking, and in the case of this episode, a bit heartbreaking.

In PRETEND DADDY, the most intense episode of this season (and perhaps of any “non-scripted” show), Nathan is facing negative repercussions of his brand of comedy. He emphasizes (albeit in a rehearsal) that the point of his work is to laugh with and not at. THE REHEARSAL is a critique of comedy itself; PRETEND DADDY was genuinely sad but also incredibly humorous. In this episode, the person in the spotlight is Nathan Fielder himself, not a religious zealot or trivia champion or a gold-digging grandson.

PRETEND DADDY felt like an extension of THE FIELDER METHOD, the fourth episode of the season, but it also ties up every episode of this show so far. Nathan took this show to an entirely new level, and I can’t wait for the next season.

THE REHEARSAL is available to stream on HBO Max.
