THE PENGUIN S1E6 GOLD SUMMIT 😊

The best prestige dramas include characters with moral ambiguity. As the PENGUIN nears the end of its first season, it continues to show Oswald as a ruthless killer who also cares for the people he loves – mainly his mother and Victor. That depiction of Oz and some satisfying moments with Sofia make E6 better than it deserves.

GOLD SUMMIT isn’t as good as the episodes before it because it slows down to let its characters have a moment to catch audiences up with who they are emotionally. I’m all for emotional story-building. Yet, where GOLD SUMMIT fails is in its pacing. We get that Oz’s mother is sick, yet showing a character mentally suffer repeatedly is a waste of repeated story beats. The outcome of where that goes is satisfying, but it could’ve gotten there in far less time and allowed for more time underground – where the real action occurred.

“The Wizard of Oz’s” plan is just coming to light. I, for one, cannot wait to see if the city of Gotham remembers to “look down” and see the people of Crown Point. Knowing the Batman Universe, I doubt that will happen, which should make for a satisfying conclusion over the next two weeks.

It’s available on Max.
