THE MERRY GENTLEMEN is just gratuitous sexual innuendo that doesn’t build or explode. It is PG all the way with a predictable holiday script. It could have been much more, but it landed like a pancake in the middle of the town’s square.Â
I fault the writing for not thinking or believing viewers want more from their season of holiday movies. The story was as old as vaudeville, with similar comedy bits that were not funny. The chemistry between the “couple” was stiff and not believable. The depth, the intentions, and the warm, fuzzy hearts were MIA. I wish I could ask for a refund.Â
THE MERRY GENTLEMEN is not worth your busy holiday time. I am a big fan of rom-coms and enjoy a line-up of dancing, shirtless men, but this film lost touch with any illusion of reality.
