THE LINCOLN LAWYER is a new look at the best-selling book series written by Michael Connelly and produced by David E. Kelley. In 2011, the movie was created with Matthew McConaughey portraying the leading role, Mickey Haller. This year, the torch was handed to Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. The new “look” worked exceptionally well.
The slick courtroom drama was compelling and “binge-worthy.” I could not stop myself from the first episode to the next. The entire ensemble is fresh and offers new insight into THE LINCOLN LAWYER’S backstory. Yes, there were several subplots, but the most intriguing one was always watching Mickey do his thing in the courtroom. There he is likable, confident, powerful, and, at times, humorous. The writers, of course, kept the Lincoln Town Car as an added “character” where Mickey does his best thinking. He is still an idealist who believes in always being true to his client, no matter the cost.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series. I was even a bit sad when it ended. I like the characters and their fight to do the right thing. We need more of these shows to keep our ideals and morals in check. There was a cliffhanger, so I am hopeful it will return for another season.
THE LINCOLN LAWYER is for anyone who likes to watch a flawed knight ride in and correct the mistakes of our judicial system. It gives me hope and makes me believe that not all lawyers are “sleazy.”
THE LINCOLN LAWYER is available to stream on NETFLIX.
