THE LAST SUNRISE stays true to Anna Todd’s best-selling novel that the film is based upon. This is one of two pieces of good news about this romantic drama. The second is co-star Eva Longoria portraying Isolde, mother of Ry played by Maia Reficco. The story would have been ten times better if audiences could have watched Isolde’s tale featured on screen instead of Ry’s stiff, stilted, one-dimensional story of woe and sex. What a loss and waste of time for viewers.
Reficco is paired with Fernando Lindez as Julian. Yes, I agree he is adorable, but now there are two stiff characters trying to create chemistry when nothing is lit. The writing did not help anyone, nor did the music and montages. The location was stunning. Majorca has fabulous waterways, beaches, docks, and cliffs that are picture-postcard perfect. Okay, I stand corrected. There were three good things in THE LAST SUNRISE. In the end, it was as predictable as the final line spoken.
THE LAST SUNRISE just missed the boat on this one. It didn’t even qualify for a should-a, would-a, or could-a status. Don’t waste your time. Read the book instead.
