It’s been a long two-year wait for the best video game adaptation of all time to return to the screen. And that wait is well worth it. FUTURE DAYS is a nice reintroduction to everyone’s favorite group while setting up the violent second chapter in LAST OF US’s story.
The LAST OF US PART II video game is all about perspective. The game forces users to play several uniquely different characters, which forces users to empathize with all sides of its world. To do this in a TV series, viewers must spend time away from the main protagonists from season one, Joel and Ellie, as the creators are forced to portray additional people, driving the narrative forward. FUTURE DAYS does this gracefully. It allows audiences to learn about the supporting cast and focuses on how Joel and Ellie are “not brave enough to heal something since they can’t say it out loud.”
Watching E1 was a unique experience since I viewed it with my non-gaming mom, who has no context for where this story is going. I’m not going to spoil the twists and turns. Instead, I’ll let her saturate in the series world-building. She’ll soon understand the importance of Joel playing that guitar. But until then, she’s in for one helluva season two journey.
The season premiere is available on Max.
