THE DIVIDED ISLAND is a very informative, well-produced documentary discussing the Cyprus problem then and now. It features incredible, raw, sometimes brutal clips from a war-torn, battle-scarred petite country. It is an intelligent, educated look at what happens when people dehumanize their neighbors and see them only as us vs. them. ย
The producers interviewed people who have lived through years of sorrow and loss. The photos set the tone for this heartbreaking push-and-pull destruction tale. It is not an easy viewing time, but it is necessary if there are to be any modifications and corrections to the Cypriotโs beleaguered past. Turkey and Greece must come together simply because Cyprus is too small an island to be divided forever. Their current โpeaceโ canโt last forever. These are the times I often ask myself when humanity will ever learn from their missteps. It is a conundrum, to be sure.ย
THE DIVIDED ISLAND is, at times, slow-paced, but it carries a heavy punch and is filled with a history lesson worth revisiting. It was created by those who truly care about Cyprus’s future. They have proven beyond any doubt that this small country represents much more than a beautiful tourist attraction. Peopleโs lives are at stake. Cyprus does not want its turbulent past to become its future.ย
