THE BEANIE BUBBLE is the latest film capturing the behind the scene story of how Beanie Babies became the biggest toy company in history. Ty Warner (Zach Galifianakis) was a narcissistic toymaker who made billions of dollars at his peak and then lost every cent. It is that same old story of rags to riches and back to rags.ย ย
No one could tell Ty what to do. The amazing three women, Robbie (Elizabeth Banks), Sheila (Sarah Snook), and Maya (Geraldine Viswanathan), who collaborated and made him so successful, tried for years. He was cheap, insecure, and acted like a little boy. The film showcased the huge breach of trust he fostered daily.ย ย
Elizabeth was phenomenal in her part. She was the woman many young people strive to emulate, with the exception of using her sexiness as a weapon and motivator. It was a different decade, and women were still figuring out appropriate behaviors. The writers gave each woman strength and power that served them well for their futures. Zach played Ty with a little too much flair for me, butย maybe that was his power as well.ย ย
THE BEANIE BUBBLE is a story of a different era when the world went wild over some โflatโ stuffed animals. It flashed forward and back throughout the film, which at times hurt the continuity and pacing. Some got very rich, and many โlost their shirts.โ I am glad my daughter and I did not join the insanity. The film is okay if you like discovering the โwhy and howโ behind billion-dollar moments in business.ย ย
THE BEANIE BUBBLE is available to stream on APPLE tv+.
