Dave Filoni does it again. Like me, you may know him from his excellent work on THE MANDALORIAN, but THE BAD BATCH premiere cements Filoni as Jedi Master of the Star Wars Universe. Of course, THE BAD BATCH is pretty much a direct sequel to Filoni’s THE CLONE WARS, but it also seems to be another pillar in the Disney+ Star Wars canon.
THE BAD BATCH – AFTERMATH is a 70-minute premiere special that has everything a Star Wars fan could hope for. It’s pretty much the first time we see what happens after the Clone Wars and shows us what happens in the earliest days of the villainous Galactic Empire.
The references and cameos in this episode are done SO well. For fans of THE CLONE WARS and REBELS animated TV shows, sure, but also for those who have only seen the films. The tone of the episode is similar to THE MANDALORIAN, which manages to balance a darker tone without being brooding, yet retains the quintessential Star Wars adventure. Think about it as ROGUE ONE, but with superheroes.
Last note – don’t let the animation style taint your expectations. The show is cinematic and the characters are expressive and unique (even though they’re all technically clones and voiced by the same actor, Dee Bradley Baker).
You can watch the premiere of THE BAD BATCH on Disney+ today!
