THE AFTERPARTY focuses on Feng (Ken Jeong) this week and fills his backstory with mediocre success. At this stage of the game, it’s clear that the show is more concerned with trying to spoof various genres than telling a compelling and funny story.
What works well enough in E8 is that the show finally gives one of the characters a little heart. In previous episodes, Feng was the most annoying character, yet audiences should be able to relate empathetically after discovering the “found footage” of his story.
E7 ULYSSES was a hard act to follow. While FENG is nowhere near as good, it does a serviceable job in what has turned into a so-so TV series.
