THAT CHRISTMAS is a delightful, animated film created from the Richard Curtis children’s book series, including THE EMPTY STOCKING, SNOW DAY, and THAT CHRISTMAS. It features a marvelous cast of talented actors who lend their voices to make the story come alive. These include Fiona Shaw, Bill Nighy, Brian Cox, and Zazie Hayhurst. Watching and hearing the words on a page come to life on screen is always a treat.Â
The action was lightning-fast, the coloring was childlike and fun, and the writers added several snippets of pop music, culture, and lingo. The only problem for me was that the movie did not have the same warmth and depth felt when reading the book version. Something seemed missing, even though it was still entertaining and exciting.Â
THAT CHRISTMAS is an invitation for the entire family to view, and no animals were harmed, which makes a happy turkey smorgasbord. These are rare nowadays.
