MY OLD ASS 🤩

MY OLD ASS is more profound than what audiences going to see it will expect. I went into it thinking I would laugh, only to leave with the hope and enlightenment of a BEFORE SUNRISE-light type of movie. In other words, this is a classic tear-jerker about love that is insightful as much as it’s entertaining. And that all hinges on the two lead performances from Aubrey Plaza and Maisy Stella. Both are superb in this mushroom trip gone right…

THE FOG 😊

I love a lot of John Carpenter movies. HALLLOWEEN, ASSAULT ON PRECINT 13, THE THING, THEY LIVE. Before watching it to review it, I wasn’t sure I had ever seen THE FOG. The best docs are the ones that surprise you and take a huge left turn in the middle. And that is exactly what this fantastic documentary offers. The last movie Howard Hughes made in 1951 was a complete fiasco – it was about Genghis Kahn and the Mongol Conquerors, but get this: It starred John Wayne in the title role with an almost entirely white cast! I swear I could not make this up. The movie was hugely expensive and…

CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON (1954) 🤩

When I was a little girl, I distinctly remember watching CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON in 3D on WPIX, a then-independent station out of New York City. I didn’t recall the year or much about the movie except that we had to go to Burger King to pick up the red & blue 3D glasses and that after I saw the film, I was terrified to bathe for a couple of days. Recently I saw that in honor of the…
