We are late in the game for SUNNY to do a flashback episode. Yet, TRASH OR NOT TRASH is just that. And it’s incredibly successful at setting things up for the outcome of this mixed-bag series. Learning about Masa’s (Hidetoshi Nishijima) background allows the story to come full circle. Even more impressive, the show’s creators lean into what makes SUNNY worth watching – its visual style, eclectic music selection, and Rashida Jones’s performance.
I’ve seen the entire first season of SUNNY, and E8 is easily the best. A forewarning to fans: this is the high part, so enjoy it before the inevitable slide back to mediocrity in the next two episodes.
The latest episode of SUNNY is available on Apple TV+.
