STICK is predictable, clichéd, and yet still somehow effective due to the likability of its lead characters. It has an ACAPULCO vibe mixed with the sports trappings of TED LASSO. Episode five is the series’ best yet.
It works so well because audiences get to discover why Stick (Wilson) is who he is and why Santi’s success is so important to him. That revelation comes through a heartwarming confrontation with Mitts that should help shape the rest of the first season to come.
If you’re reading the mixed reviews on STICK – don’t. The show is easy to watch, fun, and addicting. It’s not a hole-in-one, but it’s on par with most sports crowd-pleasers.
It’s available on Apple TV+.
