Let’s get right to the point. SECRET INVASION was an unnecessary series. Throughout six drawn-out episodes, a few big changes came to the MCU. All of these things could have been squeezed into an existing or upcoming film, or at the very least; we could have had a tight, action-packed 3-episode limited series. I love Samuel L. Jackson and his depiction of Nick Fury, and I think there’s been plenty of moments throughout the MCU to feature him more, outside of THE AVENGERS and CAPTAIN MARVEL. Perhaps this was a side deal Jackson made with Marvel, and he should get all the money and fame for being part of the MCU for the last 15 years longer than anyone else. None of this makes up for the many failures of SECRET INVASION. Â
Episodes 1-5 are all just a build-up to HOME. E6 answers some questions, raises more, and drops us into the moments that I assume are leading up to THE MARVELS. The high points of this week’s episode and the season at large are Kingsley Ben-Adir (currently on-screen in BARBIE) as Skrull leader Gravik, Emilia Clarke as G’iah as Talos’ daughter, and some fun cameos that I’ll let you experience on your own. Nick Fury finally gets shit done, and I wondered why he couldn’t have taken these actions three episodes ago.Â
Disney+ should have taken a cue from the wonderful one-off WEREWOLF BY NIGHT and delivered something befitting to Jackson and Fury without all the filler.Â
SECRET INVASION, the full series, is now streaming on Disney+.Â
