SAUSAGE PARTY: FOODTOPIA 🤮

SAUSAGE PARTY: FOODTOPIA is a TV series that should've been a graphic novel.

I wanted to laugh at FOODTOPIA, but I hardly even smiled. The eight-episode series raises the bar on offensive scenes and ridiculously cheesy food puns, yet none rise to the level of the main course, aka the SAUSAGE PARTY movie.

First and foremost, I’m a dad who uses horrible dad jokes in my life. I even have a daily dad joke Instagram account (#ShamelessPlug). Yet, I’ve learned in my dad joke wisdom that the most awful puns and dad jokes are better written than said verbally. And there are a lot of awful puns spoken in FOODTOPIA that fall flat. The series sometimes feels too smart for itself as the clever jokes and societal spoofs will go over the sophomoric audience it’s aimed at. Hell, there are even obscure CALL ME BY YOUR NAME and Werner Herzog references. But are they funny? Sadly, not really.

Outside of the uninspiring story, FOODTOPIA’s animation style appears incomplete. The film lacks polish, and I’m not sure if it was budget constraints or something else since the show has Amazon backing with a slew of name stars.

If I were to write a restaurant review for FOODTOPIA, it would be:

After the Award-winning “Wiener” SAUSAGE PARTY, the chefs are back in an unappetizing sequel that should’ve been sent back to the kitchen.

It’s available on Prime Video.
