In the last two episodes of RESERVATION DOGS, the elders have thought they could help their kids process grief, but it has been the reverse. Watching Rita’s (Sarah Podemski) journey from becoming more than Bear’s mom makes this another must-watch addition. It’s a heartfelt and funny episode that’s a friendly reminder – “We all have trauma.”
RESERVATION DOGS has always been about the spirits of our past, guiding us to move forward, and WAHOO! heavily leans into this. When we are young, we don’t realize that our inability to take action will have consequences for us when we get older. That slacker vibe is displayed through the kids in the show but is now personified through the parents in subtle, captivating ways.
One last note: watching Devery Jacobs grow from playing Elora to directing an episode is beautiful. WAHOO! was directed by her, and she’s able to use the complicated themes of the story to do what this show does best – balance humor and sentimental moments.
