Audiences may not have shown up for James Gunn’s SUICIDE SQUAD in theatres, but they better turn out for the series based on one of the film’s lead characters, PEACEMAKER. The show premiered on HBO Max this past week with three episodes. All three episodes were 🤩, but the last one was my favorite.Â
If we were in the 90s, these episodes would’ve made a perfect ninety-minute stand-alone film to set up a much-needed sequel. But since we are in 2022, PEACEMAKER continues in TV format.
I’m not going to dive into details on the plot, themes, or even why there’s an eagle that hugs Peacemaker (John Cena). What I will say is that if you love the irrelevance of James Gunn at his best, think SLITHER, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, and of course, SUICIDE SQUAD, then you’ll love his new series. For me, PEACEMAKER is a cross between ASH VS. THE EVIL DEAD and THE BOYS, both of which I loved.Â
Thanks to Warner for letting James Gunn let his lovable freak flag fly and create an earlier candidate for the best TV show of 2022. And of course, thanks to James Gunn for reminding me of the correct way to say BERENSTAIN BEARS and the funniest TV opening sequence ever.Â

Check it out on HBO Max.
