I know ON A WING AND A PRAYER is an amazing, intense story based on true events that happened on Easter Day in 2009. It literally joins people from across the United States to share their aviation skills and kindness to get the entire White family out of the skies and safely on ground. There was no logical reason how this worked. Some would say the power of faith and God was the glue that held everyone together and achieve their goal: a great true tale, but a horrendous script and film.
ON A WING AND A PRAYER is filled with strong actors, including Dennis Quaid, Heather Graham, and Jesse Metcalf. What a waste of their talent during this 102-minute movie. The story is phenomenal, but the writers did them no justice with the boring dialogue they created. It was way too talky and preachy. I felt like I was being hit over the head with a hammer that said, “You must have faith and believe.” And the sad part was the lack of energy and creativity. Stories like this should write themselves and be inspirational. I guess no one got that memo.
ON A WING AND A PRAYER should have had audiences feeling tears of relief at the end instead of only gratitude the ordeal was over. This film could have been so much more. Don’t waste your time. Read the book instead. It is available to stream on AMAZON PRIME.
