MY SPY: THE ETERNAL CITY is not rocket science. Instead, it is a silly film that asks viewers to disband disbelief for the good of broad humor, sarcasm, action, growing pains, and good family values. In my view, it is a solid โCโ movie.
The story is a continuation of the original MY SPY plot line, which just took place five years later. It boasts original cast members such as Dave Bautista, Chloe Coleman, Kristen Schaal, and Ken Jeong. Anna Farris is a welcome addition. The fight scenes are fast, furious, and funny. I enjoyed the honest look at a 14-year-old driving the getaway car. She was not the perfect driver as it was realistically shown. The teenage relationship between JJ and Sophie seemed true to what all stepparents go through. I will say the very open-mouthed kiss was a hoot and gross simultaneously.
MY SPY: THE ETERNAL CITY is a film to watch when wanting to forget or let go of daily stress. It is not meant to be taken seriously or nominated for any awards.
It is streaming on Prime Video.
