Before diving into the latest episode of MS. MARVEL, I want to say that this series had dipped a bit for me over the last two additions. The show started to get sidetracked by bringing Kamalaās (Iman Vellani) culture and family to the small screen instead of telling a compelling story. While that background is essential, it wasnāt moving the plot along enough to keep me enthralled weekly.Ā
The good news is that in TIME AND AGAIN, the creators are back on track by somehow abandoning our protagonist, Kamala, for nearly twenty minutes. The result is the strongest outing yet in the series. Thereās no doubt that Iman Vellani is the breakout star of this series. Yet, in the last few weeks, she hasnāt been given much to do outside of learning more about her familyās history. So instead of just learning in E5, the show utilizes the time travel mechanism. And itās a beautiful story watching the origin of the ātrail of starsā from E1.Ā
MS. MARVELās had four episodes to introduce audiences to its main characters. Itās courageous this late in the game to abandon those characters for two newbies and somehow have it all tie together. My hats off as the show wrap it up nicely, and both Aisha (Mehwish Hayat) and Hasan (Fawad Khan) become the most compelling characters in MS. MARVEL outside of Kamala.Ā
I only have two dings in this weekās episode:
- Itās 2022. We deserve better CGI than the skeletons on display that look like leftovers from an EVIL DEAD or early MUMMY (not Tom Cruise, but Brendan Fraser) film.Ā Ā
- This isnāt the final episode. The story of MS. MARVEL felt complete. Yet, thereās a cliffhanger with a rushed āBā story thatās not quite as interesting and sets up next weekās season finale. I have doubts since this one perfectly closed the book with a wonderful āshot to the heartā on Kamalaās narrative.Ā
Audiences should tune in and enjoy the latest MS. MARVEL on Disney+.Ā
