Holy freaking hell, this season of LOKI has just been getting better and better. Kicking out S1 showrunner and RICK AND MORTY writer Michael Waldron (who also wrote the disappointing DOCTOR STRANGE AND THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS) was the best thing for the show (hopefully the MCU). Because directors Aaron Moorehead and Justin Benson, along with head writer Eric Martin, have crafted one of the finest episodes of any MCU show to date with THE HEART OF THE TVA.
Critics were supposedly given this episode along with the first 3 in advance. And even the most cynical among them said the 4th episode was a game changer. So, my expectations were lofty. And yet, I still finished the episode with my jaw agape.
THE HEART OF THE TVA is packed with everything you could ask for in a TV show. Even an MCU project. Humor, terrific acting, tension, answers, and insane surprises. Watching each moment escalate bigger and better as the minutes tick by simply keeps you on the edge of your seat. Coupled with excellent, suspenseful direction from Moorehead and Benson’s beautiful horror-tinged shots, this single episode may simply go down as one of the greatest hours of entertainment in MCU history!
As they say in the episode, hoping is hard. But taking a queue from the god of mischief, I have the highest hopes that the remaining two episodes stick the landing.
