As much as I love the TVA, LOKI is at its most fun when it explores branched timelines and alternate realities. 1893, as the title suggests, takes place at the end of the 19th century at the Chicago World Fair, adding new characters and fleshing out others.
Setting aside brushed-away paradoxes and other minute plot holes, 1893 is action-packed, goofy, and, most importantly, answers as many questions as it asks (which is, to say, a lot). This episode combines world-building with character development in a longer runtime without dragging.
We know some of these characters are ill-fated for reasons both in and out of the MCU, but 1893 feels fresh and innovative, cementing itself as an exciting installment to one of the most enjoyable shows airing right now.
LOKI is available to stream on Disney+.
