While I wasn’t “drunk” over LIQUOR BANK, it does have a strong enough “buzz,” making it worth watching this fifteen-minute short film by writer/director Marcellus Cox.
LIQUOR BANK is Marcellus Cox’s demo, showcasing he’s more than capable of taking on a feature-length film’s emotional complexities. The story of Eddie (Antwone Barnes) and Baker (Sean Alexander James) is a window into love and alcoholism. With his Blockbuster Video-like wardrobe, Baker has an unassuming approach as he attempts to “stop Eddie from drowning.” The two actors are superb in their roles, even if the dialogue is a bit heavy-handed.
The music and sound design make LIQUOR BANK feel larger than it is. Those technical pieces make for a captivating tone that enables the actors to portray a friendship being put to the test.
LIQUOR BANK is currently on the film festival circuit.
