Due to the stunning Italian landscape, LA DOLCE VILLA is a sweet, sappy, easy-to-watch rom-com. This film could also double as a travel advertisement because audiences will be packing their bags for a trip abroad after viewing the luscious green hills. Mine are already by the front door, waiting for my Uber to arrive.
The story is predictable but offers an honest look at grief and father/daughter relationships. It is not easy accepting the passing years and the need for independence. The writers got it right within a simple setting and added a mid-life crisis for the young and old.
The film worked due to the chemistry between the potential coupling and the entire village. Eric (Scott Folly) and Francesca ( Violante Placido) helped immensely with their winning, comfortable life discoveries. They were simply lovely. Improbable? Indeed. But the rules fly out the window when one is committed to a romance.
LA DOLCE VILLA is pure escapism that will make women smile at the possibility of finding love at any age and in any country.
