JOHN CANDY: I LIKE ME 🤩

JOHN CANDY: I LIKE ME is an intimate, thoughtful documentary about the man hidden behind the infamous face of comedian extraordinaire… John Candy. The film shared fascinating insights, giving fans a complete picture of a talented actor who loved making people laugh. It was beautifully created, gently forcing audiences to witness the good, bad, and ugly moments from a larger-than-life, hilarious man.

John Candy only lived for 43 years. He ate, drank, and smoked cigarettes. His personal health was always in question, yet he had more stamina and energy than most people half his age. He was a people-pleaser who could never say no to anything and always believed he would be famous one day. He just didn’t realize how beloved he would become.

Candy was EVERYMAN. The public saw a little bit of themselves in each character he created from his roots in SCTV, Second City, and, of course, his movie career. He was a consummate actor who left a fantastic resume that includes films such as SPLASH, SPACEBALLS, SUMMER RENTAL, UNCLE BUCK, and PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES. He knew who he was and where he stood in Hollywood. It was no secret that Candy was overweight, but to him, he was just a person who wanted the world to see and accept him for his talent.

Family was important to Candy.  He wanted to be the best father to his two children and husband to his wife. He knew the perils of growing up without a father since his father died at 35 when Candy was only 5 years old. Ironically, the universe had other ideas for his fate. All of this was told through clips and interviews with his family, friends, and colleagues (Eugene Levy, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Steve Martin, Martin Short, Mel Brooks, Catharine O’Hara, Tom Hanks, and many more). It was literally a who’s who of comedy.

JOHN CANDY: I LIKE ME was a special treat. It took me back, made me laugh, and shed a tear for such a loss. This documentary will touch your heart and open memory boxes. John Candy died in 1994. It was way too short a life.

It is streaming on Prime Video.
