HURRY UP TOMORROW is a new film directed by Trey Edward Shults (IT COMES AT NIGHT) and co-written by Shults, Abel Tesfaye AKA The Weeknd, and Reza Fahim. It stars Tesfaye as himself, or a version of himself, with Barry Keoghan and Jenna Ortega in supporting roles. Below are my voice notes after seeing an early film screening last night. I’ve decided that this film doesn’t warrant any more of my time, so I leave my review in this format. But I do promise, the music is great. If you’re the biggest fan of The Weeknd, perhaps that’s enough for you to enjoy this mess.
Cringe.
Fever Dream.
Self-indulgent.
If a 16-year-old’s diary came to life.
Great music, tho. 🔥
Abel Tesfaye is a huge talent, but this ain’t it.
Every character in this movie is the most annoying person alive.
Did AI write this?
So many lazy tropes.
It’s lonely at the top.
Death of the ego.
Wayward pop star.
This might have been a decent student film.Â
Barry Keoghan, you’re too good for this.
Jenna Ortega, you’re too good for this.
HURRY UP TOMORROW makes me want to listen to The Weeknd more and avoid any film or TV show he’s involved in again.Â
Cringe.Â
