LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS 🤩

Every theatre arts teacher has one or two plays or musicals they always wanted to produce and direct on stage. LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS was one of mine. There never seemed to be the right time, and timing is everything when creating an okay season for my community. It is a regret. Ever since I first heard the opening number of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, I was smitten with plant fever and a huge crush on Seymour, played by Rick…

DEATH BECOMES HER 😊

DEATH BECOMES HER is my kind of horror flick -not super scary, but bizarre, hair-raising, and borderline chilling. Spooky movies need an absurd plot, music that pumps your heart along with a lightning storm in the middle of the night, a kick-ass cast, and humorous moments. Robert Zemeckis created a most intriguing comedy, fantasy, and horror film in 1992, which won an Oscar for Special and Visual Effects.  Looking younger than your actual age is still a thing in Hollywood. The…

FROM… SO FAR 😊

If FROM were any other network than the little-used streaming service MGM+, this would be a bonafide hit. As is, it’s a little-seen horror series that deserves audiences’ attention this Halloween. I loved the journey of the TV show LOST but hated the destination. I was skeptical when I heard that LOST producers Jack Bender and Jeff Pinkner were reuniting for a horror thriller with former castaway Michael (Harold Perrineau). Yet, I’ve binged and am up to date on the…

CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON (1954) 🤩

When I was a little girl, I distinctly remember watching CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON in 3D on WPIX, a then-independent station out of New York City. I didn’t recall the year or much about the movie except that we had to go to Burger King to pick up the red & blue 3D glasses and that after I saw the film, I was terrified to bathe for a couple of days. Recently I saw that in honor of the…

IT’S WHAT’S INSIDE 😊

A group of self-obsessed, sycophantic twenty-something-year-olds get together to play a deadly game. Sound familiar? IT’S WHAT’S INSIDE attempts to achieve the charisma of other iconic horror comedies like BODIES BODIES BODIES, and while it does not necessarily achieve the same charm, its’ premise and tone are entertaining enough to merit a watch, especially with a run-time of just over an hour-and-a-half.  The concept of IT’S WHAT’S INSIDE is silly yet thought-provoking, a difficult but necessary dichotomy to achieve for…

SMILE 2 😊

PREMISE Global pop star Sky Riley begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and explicable events. She’s forced to face her past as these events escalate everything surrounding her life. THE GOOD STUFF NAOMI SCOTT – There’s a big difference between what is referred to as a scream queen and just a good actress in a horror movie. Scream Queens encompass all the traditional things that have defined scream Queens over time (sex appeal, loud screaming, girl next door type of image). Scream…
