Charlie Brooker’s BLACK MIRROR is back! Esta and Aaron review each episode below.
E1 COMMON PEOPLE ๐คฉ
COMMON PEOPLE works thanks to two fantastic performances by Chris O’Dowd and Rashida Jones. The dark mix of corporate greed and OnlyFans-like greed is on full display. And it all works since audiences will empathetically understand the awful decisions the once-happy couple makes to sacrifice themselves with Rivermind.

E2 BETE NOIRE ๐
The title of BLACK MIRRORโs second episode, BETE NOIRE, means a person or thing that you dislike or annoy you. This is the perfect title and offers amazing insight into the motivation behind Mariaโs (Siena Kelly) character.ย
Verity (Rosy McEwan) was a worthy adversary, and their deliciously evil moments together were great fun to watch. The writers spun a tale that hopefully most wonโt see coming.
Verity and Siena will not disappoint. There was a bunch of cool calculations behind their steely eyes.

E3: HOTEL REVERIE ๐
HOTEL REVERIE is the toughest episode for me not to give ๐คฉ to. It’s beautifully executed, has a fascinating plot, and flawless performances. Yet, one can’t hide that the A.I. script repeats the same story beats too many times and overstays its welcome. SAN JUNIPERO – this is not.

E4: PLAYTHING ๐คฉ
BLACK MIRROR gave audiences another unique look at humanity’s violent and evil tendencies. We are flawed, and it has gathered attention. Thank goodness the writers created “meds” for communication. The Throng know what to do as they lead with a clear message. The story was compelling, entertaining, and patiently shared right down to the final frame. This episode makes me wish I had studied code or, at the very least, had more experience with little bunnies.
E5: EULOGY ๐คฉ
Paul Giamatti was born to play this role. EULOGY might be the smallest in tech and world-building scope, but it’s the deepest of the new season regarding human complexity. EULOGY is also the only episode this season where the technology used isn’t our downfall – it assists humans in having a more profound connection. This trip down memory lane is worthy of taking a picture – just don’t scratch out anyone’s face on the journey.

E6: USS CALLISTER: INTO INFINITY ๐คฉ
BLACK MIRROR gave fans like me a phenomenal gift. We were treated to the second half of a brilliant story first shown as the opening episode of season four in 2017. The USS CALLISTER travels into infinity and beyond with the same ensemble holding on to maintain their sanity and lives. It is a harrowing, exciting journey filled with double entendres and surprising twists. Itโs a live-action video game with silly breaks, revisiting the REAL HOUSEWIVES OF ATLANTA. What could be more fun? This was totally entertaining for the sci-fi community. I could not stop smiling as the credits rolled. Bravo.
