BLACK BAG begs the question: Would you kill for me? Then it whisks viewers off on a spy-thriller, romance, snarky, intelligent adventure. It is complicated and nicely done, keeping the whodunit moment till the end after presenting several detours.Â
Steven Soderbergh (SEX, LIES, AND VIDEO TAPE, ERIN BROCKOVICH, and TRAFFIC) is an extremely capable director. He knows precisely where to heighten the intensity and when to pull back. We are putty in his hands. Working together with the amazing Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender creates an unbeatable acting team. The action is fast. The dialogue speeds by with intensity and intention. Buckle up. Although it is quite talky, the film remains intriguing and entertaining. I would never want to take a lie detector test with George, the agent Fassbender portrays. What a merry chase to get to the truth.Â
BLACK BAG refers to a great technique that married agents use. More couples should consider adopting this phrase in their relationship. Also, playing dinner table games might lower the divorce rate. Just don’t invite me to one of their parties. The stakes are too high.
BLACK BAG is streaming on PEACOCK.
