BAD MONKEY has not been featuring the little critter much lately, but maybe that’s because the show has been so busy with body bags, sexy morgues, missing phones, and bad concussions. The writers are thickening the plot with all sorts of escapes and lost windows of opportunity. With or without the monkey, it is all very exciting excitement topped with sarcastic, biting humor.
Vince Vaughn is just a hoot in his role as Yancy, the wannabe detective. He is surrounded by bumbling, grave-protecting policemen. His new cohort in crime, Rosa (Natalie Martinez) is just who everyone needs in their life. The two have great chemistry even while she is continually sewing up his wounds. Every moment is fast-paced and pure escapism built around scenes fraught with violence and kindness. It is a mixed bag to be sure.Â
BAD MONKEY is a fun semi-predictable series. It just makes me want to buy that house next door. This would be a kick waking up to Yancy’s shenanigans every day. It is streaming on Apple TV+.Â
