ALBERT BROOKS: DEFENDING MY LIFE was a thoroughly entertaining and hilarious documentary. It was produced and directed by his best friend, Rob Reiner. This little film gem will have viewers laughing until tears roll down their cheeks.Â
The movie was told through Albert Brooks’s stroll through memory lane about his parents, friends, fellow comedians, and family. The man was and is a legend. His absurdist sense of humor has been a highlight since the 60s. He was fearless. He created comic bits that most only dream of making, let alone performing them on national television and at the best comedy clubs. He appeared on Johnny Carson’s TONIGHT SHOW thirty times. This icon was hailed by Jon Stewart, Chris Rock, Larry David, Sara Silverman, Jonah Hill, Steven Spielberg, and many more.Â
The clips, interviews, and excerpts from his film career were the best. I loved learning the real story behind all of his film creations. Who can ever forget MODERN ROMANCE, LOST IN AMERICA, DEFENDING YOUR LIFE, BROADCAST NEWS, and FINDING NEMO? He was the man who gave Lorne Michaels the idea of rotating hosts on SNL back when it first began. And he suggested Lorne should include pre-filmed bits in their repertoire. Pure genius!Â
I don’t want to say any more about this brilliant comedian. I want viewers to watch ALBERT BROOKS: DEFENDING MY LIFE for themselves. It is worth every moment of your time. What a joy to be able to sit back and laugh for ninety minutes.
It is available to stream on MAX.Â
