YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS is a huge mid-life catastrophe for the wealthy. The writers are trying to elicit empathy for both men and women of a certain age who have very few monetary limitations. It is written with sarcasm and the premise of a downward spiral.Â
Jon Hamm stars as Coop. It’s an interesting role for him because most of us have pegged him as either a villain or a lover. I feel like continually yelling at him to make good choices, but then there wouldn’t be a plot for this series. I’m still not sure whether to get emotionally attached after watching three episodes.Â
The series is well done and flows smoothly from moment to moment. This is due to the talented supporting ensemble, which includes the lovely Amanda Peet, Olivia Munn, and Hoon Lee. They add the necessary layers for a more balanced and nuanced foundation. Their back stories would be fascinating.Â
YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS might be headed for rock bottom or rejuvenation. Who can tell? It’s still too early, but I’m intrigued and willing to tag along for the ride.
It is streaming on Apple TV+.Â
