YOUNG SHERLOCK is a fast-talking, action-packed mystery thriller. It is chock full of adventures while traveling the globe. The series is fresh, sharp, and brimming with sarcastic zingers and double entendres. It will keep audiences on their toes as they try to keep up with legendary Sherlock Holmes (Hero Fiennes Tiffin) as he solves his first case.Â
The entire ensemble is constantly in the acting pocket of creating superb, memorable characters. I hardly recognized Colin Firth, covered in a delightful disguise of make-up and hair. (I won’t spoil it and divulge who he portrays.) Hero is the nephew of his well-known uncle. Ralph Finnes. Joseph Fiennes, who plays Silas, is also Hero’s uncle (Acting talent obviously runs in the Fiennes family). James Moriarty (Donal Finn) is delicious fun as well. His banter with Sherlock is quick and exciting, especially when traveling deep within Sherlock’s phenomenal brain.Â
The story is based on the YOUNG SHERLOCK book series written by Andy Lane. It was created by Guy Ritchie (THE GENTLEMAN), who also helped write and direct several episodes. He is known for his unique technique of stopping the action or fight scenes in mid-air. It definitely adds to the frenzy and chaos and allows audiences to catch up. I needed those moments to be sure.Â
YOUNG SHERLOCK is entertaining and will leave viewers breathless with all the twists and turns. It will demand that you suspend your disbelief at times, but I never minded because I felt sure we were being led to a strong payoff. I was not disappointed, and as a bonus, there was a cliffhanger for another romp through London in the 1870’s. Enjoy the campiness, costumes, and camaraderie.Â
