WOMEN IN BLUE is back for a second season. The story continues to revolve around four strong women who broke down chauvinistic barriers becoming police officers in Mexico during the turbulent times of 1971. It is inspired by true situations testing their strength and loyalties. The series is spoken entirely in Spanish, which makes it a rare chance to witness the emotional highs and lows in their native language. The English-speaking voiceovers are pretty good and give each character their necessary vocal grit and fortitude. It is compelling to witness all they endured just to see their dreams realized. We forget how different and harsh being a woman in the workforce was back then, especially in a male-dominated society such as Mexico.
The plot this season looks to be an explosive, violent, and evil case to solve. MAURICIO started the season off well, reminding audiences of all the specific quirks of the entire ensemble. The four women, their families, and co-workers continue to stay within their intended lanes, fighting the good fight while balancing between a healthy home life and work-related problems. Even within the first installment, it was obvious how difficult this was, while it appears there’s a very dangerous killer loose deep within a certain sector of the city. It is imperative for viewers to recognize how much times have changed and where many communities first began. I am looking forward to seeing how justice will be served and help push the inspiring story of the female police force.
WOMEN IN BLUE is entertaining and a thought-provoking dramatic series. It holds the promise of future exciting, thrilling scenarios which will make viewers ponder and remember.
