WHITE EYE 🤩

WHITE EYE is a short movie from Spokane’s recent Jewish Film Festival. In 21 minutes and filmed entirely in one take, the actors created a despicable situation that is very common in Israel.

It is a matter of skin tone and immigration that allows Omer (Daniel Gad) to confront what life is really like for darker-skinned Israelis. On one level, the story seems to center on a stolen bike, but in the end, what is the price humans must pay for freedom and equality? It is a sad discovery of truth and bias.

The title is unique and refers to a WHITE EYE, which is a symptom of blindness. The writer believes many Israelis carry this blind disease of racism and prejudice. It is similar to what America is going through with its immigration problems.

WHITE EYE was an Oscar contender in 2021 but failed to make the cut. It did, however, land on the shortlist for the ten finalists among 174 entries. The film is Av powerful, compelling commentary about Israeli politics. It is a must-see film to understand the universal problems facings our world.

WHITE EYE is available to stream on HBO Max.
