UNITED STATES OF AL gave us an exceptional episode this week. It was thought provoking, yet still included many humorous moments.
Al ( Adhir Kalyan) and Riley (Parker Young) were invited to a formal, fund raising, veteran event. They were both to be honored as heroes and asked to give an acceptance speech. Al, of course, was excited. Riley never considered himself a hero, so he was not looking forward to attending.
The writing was spot-on. They were not afraid to go to the dark place we just label as war. It gave us scenes that touched our heart strings. It educated the viewers with facts, we need to know. The ensemble was more authentic and honest allowing their audience to really see vets and what they experience, both during war and after.
UNITED STATES OF AL revealed a number that is seared in my brain. 17,000 Afghanistan interpreters are left in their country. They were the eyes and ears for all of our armed servicemen. Will we keep our promise to these brave interpreters as we bring home our own troops? This was a powerful show that must be seen. Kudos to all the actors and crew.
UNITED STATES OF AL is available to stream on CBS ALL ACCESS Television.
