THE WITCHES 🤮

I really wanted to love ROALD DAHL’S THE WITCHES, largely due to its an impressive cast (Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer), a heavy hitting producer team (Robert Zemeckis, Guillermo del Toro, Alfonso Cuarón), and of course, Roald Dahl’s source material.

The first 15 minutes promises world-building, depth, and emotion that is never delivered. Every time an interesting plot point emerges, it never realizes its potential, either resolved too quickly or dragged out too long.

To be honest, I didn’t hate it, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone – I honestly couldn’t tell you the who this movie was made for. It seems too creepy for kids, too cartoonish for adults, and too much uncanny valley for everyone.

It’s available to stream on HBO Max.
