Reader Note: I took a “holiday” and slept through 20 minutes of BILLIE HOLIDAY, but that does not change my opinion that the latest from Lee Daniels (PRECIOUS) is one of the worst of the year. The film has enough fire power with Holiday’s generic biopic plot points (drugs, alcohol, abuse), yet it fails due to replacing any real character development for messy uninspiring musical montages.
Instead of watching Billie Holiday being told to “Shut Up and Sing,” go listen to the music from the movie instead.
