Esta and Aaron review THE PENGUIN. Spoiler-alert: We loved it.
E1 AFTER HOURS š¤©
āDespite being a huge Batman fan, I didnāt love Matt Reeveās THE BATMAN. I thought it was tedious and overlong. It had so much potential but couldāve been a shorter film or a TV series. In walks⦠or waddles THE PENGUIN. A lived-in crime series that depicts Gotham in a way that Iāve always dreamed (or had nightmares) about. Itās what THE BATMAN shouldāve been ā a TV series. This wouldāve allowed the characters to live and breathe as they do in E1 of what will be a hit series for DC and Max.ā

E2 INSIDE MAN š¤©Ā
āColin Farrell, as Oz, AKA THE PENGUIN, is magnificent in his delivery, timing, and characterization. He is an actorās actor who knows how to immerse himself and totally disappear. Kudos to the hair and makeup department for delivering an amazing result.ā

E4 CENTāANNI š¤©
āCENTāANNI is one helluva new edition that takes a step backward, providing audiences with a much-needed ācrazyā flashback that allows us to understand how Sofia became The Hangman.ā

E5 HOMECOMING š
āTHE PENGUIN shuffled backward to another filler episode. Yes, it was necessary and important to the storyās progress, but it wasnāt as exciting as last week, except for one ferocious Sophia moment. This woman has Chutzpah with a capital C.ā

E6 GOLD SUMMIT šĀ
āGOLD SUMMIT isnāt as good as the episodes before it because it slows down to let its characters have a moment to catch audiences up with who they are emotionally. Iām all for emotional story-building. Yet, where GOLD SUMMIT fails is in its pacing.ā

E7 TOP HAT š¤©
āTHE PENGUIN gave viewers an exceptional episode this week. The writers shared Oswaldās (Colin Farrell) diabolical and malevolent instinctive behavior. Several gruesome, cringeworthy moments made me want to not watch, yet I could not turn away.ā

E8 A GREAT OR LITTLE THING š¤©
āTHE PENGUIN ends by being more than a āgreat little thingā and is easily some of the best TV of 2024. Audiences will be debating for a long time whether Ozās narcissistic traits are a comparison to Trumpās or if that was simply a coincidence. One thing is for sure: I canāt wait for this bird to soar as high as a bat when Matt Reevesā sequel is released in 2026.ā
