THE PATIENT was intriguing this week with a surprise action-packed segment and more of the back story between Alan (Steve Carell) and his son Ezra (Andrew Leeds.) Sometimes families don’t understand the “why and how” of relationships. This was evident for both father and son.

Alan is still deep in his delusional therapy and hopefully making progress. Yet, every ounce of angst and suffering is etched on Alan’s face. This is heartbreaking to witness. It is hard for some to admit their mistakes when the hours are counting down.

You could see the intense frustration during a game of ping-pong. Alan is searching his brain and heart for a solution to his entrapment. “Why couldn’t you…why didn’t you? Tough questions for a man in his predicament.

Sam (Domhnall Gleeson) is on edge as well. Things are about to change very quickly. He wants Alan’s answer, and all he gets in return is “an Englishman, a Frenchman, and a Jew are condemned to die….” Oh, I wish I knew where we are headed in the final two upcoming episodes. Maybe all we can do is pick up a sentimental guitar and sing John Denver’s COUNTRY ROAD.

THE PATIENT is available to stream on HULU.
