Overall Season Grade and Thoughts:
ESTA:Â The only reason I am giving TMMM (THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL) a đ is because it wasnât a consistent season. I thoroughly enjoyed the humor and incidents, but I wanted the plot to move further. It was a season of self-evaluation and soul-searching for every family member. After such a tumultuous first three seasons, I expected it would advance even faster.Â
AARON: đ â  I felt bored and had a slight smile throughout season four. I was impressed by every technical aspect, but until the final episode of the season, I did not care about Mrs. Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan) nor Susie (Alex Borstein). However, that last episode was spectacular and needed to âgo forwardâ with one more to land this season.â
Season MVP (Most Valuable Player)
ESTA: Hands down, it has to be Susie (Alex Borstein). She should be nominated for an Emmy for her monologue in the funeral home. It was a lesson in acting. The beats she took to catch her breath were authentic and masterful. She was on the brink of being out of control but never let it take control of her words or passion. I will remember it for years, and I imagine many acting coaches will use it to teach their students âthe art of acting.â However, I also have to give it up for Abe (Tony Shaloub) when he âlost itâ at the theatre. His timing was impeccable, and each word was said with clear intention and force.
AARON: I agree that Susie (Alex Borstein) was hilarious and heartwarming. However, her characterâs evolution was not that exciting for me. Her arc needed to happen, but it took forever to occur. I thought Lenny (Luke Kirby) was the best this past season. He had some monumental moments in the finale that set the path forward for Midge (Rachel Brosnahan) next season.Â
Season (Least Valuable Player)
AARON:Â Boise (Santino Fontana). This isnât due to his character being underwritten. Itâs more about the fact they hired the voice of Hans in FROZEN and MR. CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND âI GAVE YOU A UTIâ to do nothing. Santino is insanely talented, and those skills were wasted in TMMM.Â
ESTA: I donât look forward to Joel (Michael Zegan). His voice sounds very whiny and irritating. Itâs like having another child around in the storyâŚor maybe that is the intent? But he still is a waste of a character for me. Everyone is stronger than him in their delivery, even his new girlfriend and parents. So grow up, Joel⌠this would be my advice for him. Â
Best Joke:
ESTA:Â I have two, and both are by Mrs. Maisel:Â
âYou think I should lie to you at our sonâs fake birthday?â Â
âI havenât traveled with one suitcase since kindergarten.â
AARON: Abeâs line: âThey came, they danced. Your mother would like it.âÂ
Rank Season 1 through 4 and why
ESTA: This is easyâŚ
- Season 1
- Season 2
- Season 4
- Season 3
AARON: Close⌠Seasons 1, 2,3, 4.Â
Final Thoughts:
AARON:Â Â Iâm still down for season five of MRS. MAISEL. Yet, my excitement has gone from âurgency (that) may cause a heart attackâ to patiently waiting for it whenever itâs ready. So hereâs hoping Amy Sherman-Palladino narrows the scope and doubles down on women âdiscovering one day that they were always the ones in charge.â
ESTA:Â I can relate so much to this series. It reminds me of my New York and New Jersey family years ago. The chaos and butting into everyoneâs thoughts and problems was an everyday occurrence. It looked just like TMMM. I love how they are loud and obnoxious at times. I like going to the deli with them and just walking around NY. I will never forget the Ferris wheel at Coney Island, where Midge had a conversation with her entire family while going round and round. Priceless. It was timed to perfection.Â
I am also entertained by Midgeâs strength, talent, and belief in herself as a comedian. She is a force to be reckoned with in a good way. I sometimes long for my childhood when I was a part of such a loud, occasionally crass family who wasnât afraid to speak their minds. I miss it. More children should grow up within a family unit such as Midgeâs, who would do anything to ensure their childâs happiness no matter what. I look forward to season five. I am so not done with this series. It still makes me smile.
Season four is available on Amazon Video.
