THE FOUR SEASONS is a remake of the 1981 film with Alan Alda and Carol Burnett. Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield reimagined it as an eight-episode comedy/drama, rom-com. They filled the cast with talented actors, including Will Forte, Steve Carell, Colman Domingo, Kerri Kenney, and Fey. There was even a special Alda nostalgic moment early on. The new version is fresh and mildly funny.
I saw the original when it first premiered. It was a typical, sarcastic couple’s movie with fast-clipped, biting dialogue. Nothing changed with the new, more modern series. It felt very much within the comfort zone of all involved. There are sad scenes about the journey and complications of marriage. The story did not delve deeper than what was necessary to get to the next season of life. It moved quickly and ended with a bit of a cliffhanger. I sincerely hope it does not return. Listening to the glibness of solving problems within the allotted time frame was tough.Â
THE FOUR SEASONS presented seconds of escape and a little bit of fantasy. Marriage is so complicated in 2025. I enjoyed the ensemble, but I’m not sure it was a necessary redo.Â
THE FOUR SEASONS is streaming on Netflix.Â
