THE FIVE STAR WEEKEND surprised me. I thought it would be a silly series about a girls’ weekend. Instead, it was a deep dive discussing grief, cheating, friendship, misconstrued perceptions of the past, and the hard, soul-searching moments of being a parent. All of these heavy themes should have been a downer, but because of a well-written script, strong directing, tight editing, and a fabulous cast, I was completely mistaken. I was thoroughly entertained. I laughed. I cried. I felt the emotional growth alongside every woman’s story arc. I binged, and I was sad to see it all end. I hope there will be a season two.
Jennifer Garner, D’Arcy Carden, Gemma Chan, Regina Hall, and Chloe Sevigny were fabulous. They created a tantalizing tale that encompassed decades of friendship. I will not divulge or give away secrets, but suffice it to say, every female will be able to relate to their past and present problems. It was refreshing to witness each character’s highs and lows, just like in real life. Their combined acting abilities allowed each episode to breathe those strong, extra beats of silence. It felt authentic because not everything can be solved in the blink of an eye. All we can do is keep moving forward, surrounded by people who offer their love and support. Kudos to all. Another shoutout goes to the supporting cast members. Timothy Olyphant, West Duchovny, and Harlow Jane were a delight as well. I have no words other than to reiterate how smitten I was with this show and with everyone’s journey.
THE FIVE STAR WEEKEND will provide much to contemplate while chatting with friends. It will offer a new take on what women need to grow into their own skin and soar. As an added caveat, the location was stunning, the food was divine, and the itinerary was inspiring. Don’t miss this one, ladies.
