THE BOROUGHS is the brainchild of Jeffry Addiss and Will Matthews (THE DARK CRYSTAL, THE LORD OF THE RINGS). It is a fantastical adventure story set in a seemingly idyllic retirement community in the middle of the New Mexico desert. It is a slow burn until all the weird pieces are put in place, then all hell breaks loose. It is entertaining and binge-worthy, especially if viewers are of a certain age. Relatability will become very easy the older you are.Â
The story centers around zany cul-de-sac residents who portray incredible characters. This cast, created by Alfred Molina, Alfre Woodard, Dennis O’Hara, Clarke Peters, Carlos Miranda, Seth Numrich, Jane Kaczmarek, Jena Malone, Bill Pullman, Geena Davis, Dee Wallace, and Ed Begley Jr., sinks their teeth into a plot that is at first so unbelievable to swallow, in the end, to total acceptance. Are there holes in the story? Hell yeah. Big potholes, but that does not take away from the creepy and outrageous labyrinth of tunnels audiences are led through. I don’t think I will ever look at a peach the same way again, want to own quartz, or use the word “Mother” in conversations.Â
THE BOROUGHS is fun to watch and will leave viewers asking themselves when it is over, “What the fu**.” But who cares? Take another puff and enjoy the ride to seeking immortality, anyway you can find it.Â
