SWAN SONG is a slow-moving testament to love. It is a somber look at how much you would sacrifice for your spouse and children.
The movie relies on the stellar performances of Mahershala Aliâs duo role (Cam/Jack) and Naomie Harris (Poppy). Their love story was the true foundation for SWAN SONG. This was evident through the numerous montages of their life together. They looked like a couple deeply, unconditionally loved by each other. It was a gift to watch and witness their powerful, believable acting skills. Veteran actress, Glenn Close, was a total, calming force along with Poppy and Camâs journey. And for some mild, comic relief, Awkwafina was around when the film needed that laughter break.Â
The wild nature cinematography was stunning. It was truly breathtaking, but it was the holes in the scriptwriting that left me in the dark and asking for more. This movie wanted me to suspend my disbelief and use my imagination for a scientific project only completed successfully twice before. It was a big ask not only for Mahershala but for its entire audience. It begs the answer to the question: âAre we more than molecules and memories? What about our soul?â
SWAN SONG will definitely get you thinking about yourself and âwhat ifâ your life was similar to Camâs. What would you do? Would you do anything for the love of your life to ensure their happiness? For the answer, you will need a box of Kleenex.
It is available to stream on APPLE TV+.
