SUGAR S1E1-2 😊

SUGAR is not saccharine nor sweet. There is a new private investigator, John Sugar (Colin Farrell) who is back in town reuniting “lost” people who need a discretionary process to be found. John is a troubled man with a big heart, a hot car, and PTSD.

SUGAR’s tagline is “I don’t like hurting people,” but I would not hold him to that all the time. He is good at what does, so he says repeatedly. I believe him. He is an interesting mix of intelligence, muscle, and a manly look. I love the clips and references to movies in real life. It gives him a foundation for suspending all disbelief as he interviews each possible suspect and victim. There is much viewers will have to learn about John as we discover not only “where he has gone, but where he has been.”

The writing is slick, fresh, and told from John’s inner thoughts and stream of consciousness. This helps keep the chain of events in real-time and puts audiences on their toes. The ensemble is intriguing. Very little has been revealed, but I feel at ease with John leading the hunt.

SUGAR is compelling. I am hooked on wanting to know more. Hopefully, this case will be solved by the season’s end. It is streaming on Apple TV+.
