It’s clear that SUCCESSION is building towards a big finale, and TAILGATE PARTY is clearly setting the stage for the final three episodes. This episode may lack an exotic location or high-octane business dealings, but I guarantee will go down as one of the more pivotal episodes in the show.
Although Mattson, Kendall, and Roman have their moments, this is Shiv and Tom’s episode through and through. Sarah Snook and Matthew Macfadyen give incredible performances; there’s an entire range of emotion on display, from subtle pauses and glares to the complete opposite end of the spectrum.
It’d be unfair (and inaccurate) to call this the calm before the storm, but with what’s brewing, we needed an episode like TAILGATE PARTY. SUCCESSION is now streaming on HBO Max.
