SUCCESSION is back with a rollercoaster premiere episode that quickly reacquaints us with the (more distinct than ever) sides vying for control of the Waystar media empire. On one side is the recently united front of Roy siblings, who I love seeing “working” together, and on the other, Logan and the “Disgusting Brothers,” Tom and Greg. Connor Roy also paid a hefty sum to be mentioned in this review, so here seems like a good place to do it.
Don’t worry too much if you’re fuzzy on the events of the last couple of seasons. It took a few minutes to remind myself of how SUCCESSION feels; blink-and-you-miss-it glances, witty dialogue that goes multiple layers down, and the patent sense of cringey awkwardness sticking to every character. And more so, this season’s premiere feels like the final one, even though I can’t predict the rest of the Roy odyssey.
SUCCESSION S4E1 THE MUNSTERS is now streaming on HBO Max.
