“The world keeps moving and it can be a damn cruel place. Yet there are moments of stillness that place us in the kingdom of God.”

At the heart of SOUND OF METAL is the Oscar worthy performance by Riz Ahmed. He plays Ruben, a former addict learning to accept his new handicap – deafness. Written and directed by Darius Marder, the film is less concerned with standard plot structure and more interested in Ruben’s struggle to find his own stillness in the world. Watching this process is heartbreaking and unnerving, yet the honesty on the screen is tough to look away from.
I love movies that transport me to a world I don’t know anything about. The SOUND OF METAL moved me to the beat of a different drum and I am happy to sing its praise.
It is available on Amazon Prime Video.
